Effective employer-sponsored wellness programs can reduce medical costs by more than 18 percent for the average worker, a new report finds. The study by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine suggests that wellness programs could lower health care expenses for workers by $650 on average if health risk factors were lowered to “theoretical minimums.” Older workers could see savings leap to 28 percent when enrolled in such effective programs, the study notes.
